CREATING AND FOLLOWING THE ACTION
PRESENTED BY:
(Choreographer and Filmmaker)
Ms. Newman's workshop is an introduction to planning, practicing and shooting movement sequences for film and video. Instructor, Choreographer, and Filmmaker, Susannah Newman, will begin with a series of improvisational exercises to teach everyone techniques for moving through space with a hand-held camera. Students will be grouped into an integrated quartet, with the camera as part of the action. A series of “choreographic problems” (i.e., problems requiring organized movement with specific intent such as a basketball game, a chase scene, a sword fight or a game of hide and seek) will be presented. The teams will practice how to capture an event through imagination and steady movement techniques. The students will learn how to go beyond simply making videos to creating artistic renditions of imaginative events.
This workshop is underwritten by donors and sponsors of the New Jersey State Film Festival, and is offered free of charge to qualifying young people.
To arrange for your students or your child to participate, please call. Space is limited.
