None of our events would be possible without the dedicated volunteers who plan and staff them. Most are themselves film lovers who enjoy the craft of presenting cinematic events.

There is a role for just about everyone. You don't need to be skilled in the technology, nor do you need to learn special skills. You'll be part of an experienced team and learn by doing.

Here are some of the volunteer roles you might choose:

Usher

Ushers take tickets, assist patrons in finding seats, and answer questions.

Cashier

Cashiers sell the tickets and keep track of the receipts. This may include handling credit card transactions, checks, and cash.

Line Walkers

Line walkers expedite the ticketing process during peak periods. This may be as simple as getting tickets for will-call prepaid patrons. Or it may entail explaining the different ticket options and answering other questions for people waiting in line to buy tickets.

Host or Hostess

These volunteers are the "go-to" people who help visiting filmmakers and celebrities find accommodations and get them from one venue to the next.

Telephone Reception

Much of the communication between the patrons, filmmakers, celebrities and our office is by phone. During the run-up to the festival, volunteers staff the office phones and handle questions, telephone ticket sales, and other business.

Office Staff

Though we are a non-profit, we are a business with all the office tasks it takes to operate. Volunteers do computer work, update our databases, respond to emails and support everyone working on Marketing, Program, and Business matters.

Gaffer

"Gaffer" is the traditional name for the electricians on a movie set. We use the designation for all of our technical crew members who set up screening rooms and operate the projectors, sound equipment, and lighting.

Anyone with rudimentary technical aptitude can become a valuable part of our crew and lean from the more experienced members. Our volunteers, ranging in age from 16 to 60+ have proudly screened six successful festivals.

Ace

An "Ace" is a person who is willing to do whatever is needed and wanted at the moment, which may be lending a hand in any of the roles above. These volunteers are our "ace-in-the-hole" to deal with the inevitable unexpected challenges.
