TV/Film Actor Turned Filmmaker Visits Cape May
(Cape May, NJ) Sonny Vellozzi has appeared as an extra in several of television’s hottest shows (Sopranos, Law & Order, Rescue Me), and he plans to host his latest film “Du Lang! Du Lang!” at this Sunday’s Film Festival’s Winter Program.
Set in Catholic high school in the 1960s, the film centers on teenage romance, jealousy, loyalty, and (of course) all that great music! The film was based on the memoirs of Michele Gonta, and it was made in the Port Richmond section of the city, where Gonta was born and raised. “Writing this book brought back the fun-loving experiences of my youth,” says Gonta.
Also, Susannah Newman will present two of her short films Sam’s World, which is a dance film set within the paintings of famed artist Sam Maitin and her film “The Alley.” Susannah says, “The Alley is a screen dance which invites the viewer into a woman's physical experience of violence through the evocative eye of the camera. Editing choices mix dream with reality towards a heightening of danger, altering time and space, and recreating the chaos of memory.” “One Soul” is a suspense film short that has won awards internationally. It will be presented by the film’s producer and its special effects coordinator. “The special effects are an integral part of this film,” says Film Festival Curator Stefan Prosky. “It will be good to have the work represented by the person who created those effects.”
These films will be presented on Sunday, February 17, 2:00 p.m. at Congress Hall. Admission is $5 or free with a $20 lunch at The Blue Pig Restaurant.
“Last week’s film program was a complete success,” says Tom Sims, Executive Director for the Film Festival. “The room was maxed out, and the crowd loved the films.” Sims says the people of Cape May make a great audience. “They love a good movie, and you’re not going to find these films in theaters or on TV. They’re only here.” The Cape May NJ State Film Festival is New Jersey’s premiere film festival dedicated to the support and presentation of creative, challenging, groundbreaking, film/video works by New Jersey filmmakers. The Festival is also the region’s leading education and cultural resource for youth and adult learners interested in all facets of the cinematic experience.
