Spielberg-Commissioned Filmmaker Comes to Cape May

(Cape May, NJ) This weekend, a filmmaker commissioned by Steven Spielberg’s reality TV show “On the Lot” will be screening two films. The first film, produced for the TV show, is called Letting Go, a film about a father’s struggle with his son’s growing independence. The film has been called “a mini-masterpiece.” It has appeared in dozens of film festivals and has won several awards. In addition to screening this film, Writer/Director Dan Masucci will provide an advanced screening of Against the Wind, which will have its official world premiere at the Magnolia Independent Film Festival in Mississippi next week.

Letting Go was created by request of the producers at Mark Burnett Productions for participation in the audition process for Fox Television’s “On the Lot.” Dan was one of one hundred filmmakers (selected from more than 12,000 applicants worldwide) asked to create a short film for further consideration in being cast on the program. Contacted by “On the Lot” in early February of 2007, Dan Masucci was informed that he was onto the next round of auditions. He was also told that should he proceed further, he might be called upon to make a film at a moment's notice.

Five days later, he got that call.

“Learn more about how that whole process took place,” says Stefan Prosky, Curator for the Film Festival. “And we’re all interested to see Dan’s fresh new work. This will be truly worthwhile program.” The film will be shown Sunday, February 10, at 2:00 p.m. at Congress Hall. Admission is $5 or free with a special lunch from the Blue Pig Restaurant.

The Cape May New Jersey State Film Festival is the state’s premiere film festival dedicated exclusively to the support and presentation of creative, challenging, groundbreaking film and video works by New Jersey filmmakers.
