Margate Native Premieres Film at Festival

On Saturday, November 20th, former Margate resident Andrew Litvack will debut his first film, “Merci Docteur Rey” starring Academy Award winners Vanessa Redgrave and Dianne Wiest.

Litvack grew up in Margate, NJ and attended the Eugene A. Tighe School in Margate and graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1982. After graduating as an English literature major from Williams College in Massachusetts in 1987, Litvack moved to Paris and has lived there ever since.

The French comedy, “Merci Docteur Rey” follows a young man who witnesses a murder, deals with his overbearing opera diva mother and struggles with his homosexuality. The picture was filmed in France in 2001 but wasn’t completely finished until 2002. John Lambert, president of Regent Releasing Co., a California-based movie distribution company saw the potential in Litvack’s dark comedy because of the cast and the plot. “It takes the audience over the top. The audience has a great time with it,” Lamberts said. “The plot, I found to be intriguing, circular and involving.”

Litvack will attend and be present for a Q & A forum after screening. For more information, contact the Cape May NJ State Film Festival office at (609) 884-6700
