Following Super Saturday, Cape May’s Film Festival looks forward to a first-of-its-kind finish on Arts Brunch Sunday
“Film Inspired by Art”
The 6th Annual NJ State Film Festival at Cape May is bringing its festival to a wonderful finish with yet another surprise feature. At Congress Hall, the Sunday Brunch will focus on a number of standout short films and will also serve as the backdrop to display the art that has inspired the films. This celebration will then culminate by announcing the winners of the festival’s First Annual Awards Ceremony.
One of the focal points of the brunch will be a touching film by Craig Rinkerman, a graduate of the Young Filmmaker’s Institute. “What is important to share in this film is how the creativity and passion of all art forms not only inspire our everyday lives, but the creativity of other artists as well. In this case, the life and sculptures of one charismatic man inspired this very film,” said Rinkerman.
This Rinkerman film showcases the fine art of Gerald Lynch, whose sculptures have brought focus and integrity to southern New Jersey, touching audiences worldwide. This brunch will provide a rare display of many of the actual sculptures of this gifted artist.
The lifetime mission and contributions of this deceased artist are now being lovingly directed into the world by fellow artist and humanitarian, Cheryl Cruz. “Gerald Lynch was an artist from Villas, New Jersey and while we showed the Rinkerman film about him at last year's festival, we received such a great response that we were moved to show it in 2006 as well” said Stefan Prosky, Curator for the festival.
Another Sunday highlight will be the film of Jonathan Zelenak called “Happy Birthday,” which is a postcard tribute to Cape May and many of its best features. “We are pleased to use this event to bring awareness to the success of several of our young filmmakers who have moved into jobs in the film industry,” continued Prosky.
As the festival reaches its fourth and final day, this Sunday brunch will also host the festival’s First Annual Awards Ceremony, championing the NJ filmmakers who have most successfully touched this year’s audiences.
Some of the primary awards include the Susan Sarandon Award for Community Service and Education, the Robert Prosky Award for Best Actor, the Steve and Ed Sabol Award for Best Cinematography, and the Ron Rollet Award for Best Short - all named in tribute to former Governor’s Award winners and key players in the creation of the festival.
This year marks the Festival’s 6th year, which will take place from Thursday, November 16 to Sunday, November 19 in venues throughout Cape May. The festival schedule features Workshops for students on Thursday, an Opening Night Kick-off on Friday at Congress Hall (featuring the work of Cape May’s own Bruce Minnix) – followed by the shorts, documentaries and features of Super Saturday and the culminating Sunday Arts Brunch.
