The Susan Sarandon Award to be announced at NJ State Film Festival at Cape May!

Awards start new Tradition at Film Festival this November 16-19th

Cape May, NJ. The New Jersey State Film Festival at Cape May will for the first time be choosing winners of awards that pay homage to former Governors Awards Winners. "This first year we are presenting awards in the names of Susan Sarandon, Steve and Ed Sabol and Robert Prosky," said Ed Henry, Chairman of the festival.

"We believe that creating this way to honor special films and artists for their achievements will enhance the celebration of creativity in southern New Jersey. And we are happy to have received tremendous support from our previous Governors awards winners for this endeavor. And though Susan Sarandon will not be able to attend this years festival, she did work with us to directly to develop the category for her award, which is intended to bring greater focus to community and education," affirmed Stefan Prosky, the lead curator for the festival.

"We take great care in screening our films and look forward to finding the films that most deserve these recognitions. In future years we plan to build on this new tradition, creating awards for all the governors winners. For instance, last years winners were NFL Films Ed and Steve Sabol, who will be remembered in an award for Best Cinematography."

"To us at NFL films, this is like being inducted into the Filmmakers' Hall of Fame," said Steve Sabol. "It is a humbling honor for my father and me, that creative cinematographers will be honored in our name at Cape May's Film Festival for years to come." The Prosky Award will go to the Best Actor in a film short or documentary. It is named after famed actor Robert Prosky, who is also a part-time resident of Cape May. A final award for “Best Short Film” will be given in the name of the festival's former Artistic Director, the recently retired Ron Rollet.

The 6th Annual New Jersey State Film Festival at Cape May runs from Thursday, November 16 to Sunday, November 19 in Cape May, NJ - featuring the works of NJ filmmakers and artists.
